As we transitioned into Colossians, let verses 15-20 soak in. We tend to think of Jesus as coming on the scene as a baby in a manger, but He has been around since creation. He is not a New Testament construct. He was not spoken of in the Old Testament by name because no one knew Him by name, but they knew He was to come. What they may not have understood is that He already was. Reread the Genesis account of creation, specifically verse 2:26. "Let us make man in our own image". Who was He talking to? Jesus. In fact, God speaks of Himself in a plural sense on several occasions in the Bible. He was not alone. So the manger was not the beginning of jesus. Just the beginning of Jesus in human form.
- - " Come near to Me, hear this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning. From its being, I was there; and now the Lord Jehovah, and His Spirit, has sent Me. So says Jehovah, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, I am Jehovah your God who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go. "
(Isa 48:16-17)
- - "And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness."
(Gen 1:26)
- - "And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil."
(Gen 3:22)
- - "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they cannot understand one another's speech. "
(Gen 11-7)
- - "And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us? "
(Isa 6:8)
Tomorrow's reading: Col. 1:24-4:18

A pastor of ours at a former church wrote a book years ago called The Hiding God about the pre-incarnate appearances of Christ in Scripture. Fascinating stuff...
