Paul's Trial

Much like the trial of Jesus, Paul aggravated the Pharisees who turned the case over to the Roman governor because it was not within their jurisdiction to sentence him. And as with Jesus, the Roman authorities could find no fault in him so the Pharisees were forced to assert charges similar to the charge of insurrection brought against Jesus. They insisted that Paul was a troublemaker who was inciting riots throughout the empire. Though Jesus had been silent before His accusers, Paul gave a defense. Before two governors and a king, he was found innocent of any charge worthy of the death penalty that the Pharisees sought. Even so, he languished in prison for over two years waiting to move through the proper channels. He averted an ambush by the Jews on two occasions and in tomorrow's reading, will be extradited to Caesar at his own request.

Tomorrow's reading: Acts 27:1-44
