Paul's Shipwreck

I have a particular fear of drowning, so am struck by the trust that these sailors put in Paul and his God. Though the experienced seamen wanted to abandon ship, Paul had heard from the Lord that they needed to remain aboard. Think of the respect he must have had from these men, that they were willing to gamble on his relationship with God, and cut loose the ropes to the lifeboat. The Bible does not say that anyone else knew the Lord or sought his guidance. But Paul had evidently presented himself as the "real deal" over the two years that he had been imprisoned, and his commander readily believed that he had a word from the Lord that could be trusted. Paul was an authentic Christian> Then and now, authenticity carries alot of weight with non-believers who are always watching our lives.

Tomorrow's reading: Acts 28:1-31; Eph. 1:1-2:22
