There were many men named James referenced in the New Testament, so it is not certain which James is the author. Most scholars believe that the author was James, the brother of Jesus, who was converted after Christ's resurrection. His letter was written to the Jews and is best known for it's wisdom regarding justification. Simply put, James contended that while deeds cannot save a person, anyone with out deeds (bearing external evidence of internal relationship with Jesus) is not saved. You cannot really love God and look nothing like Him! The remainder of the book is a practical guide to Christian living. "James" has been called the "wisdom book" of the New Testament, likening it to the book of Proverbs in the Old.
Tomorrow's reading: James 4:1-5:20; 1 Tim. 1:1-2:15
