The Slaughter of the Priests

This was a hard lesson learned for David. His seemingly harmless lie to Abilelech saved his life and cost 85 men and their families, theirs. One young man survives, and David vowed to protect him with his own life. I wonder if the guilt from this incident played heavily into his decision to come to the rescue of Keilah. He had a rag-tag army of discontented men and may have been itching for action on the battlefield. But David was wise enough to see trouble coming and after praying for confirmation to his fears, he decides to leave. All pretty straightforward today...

Tomorrow's reading; 1 Samuel 23:13-25:44; Psalm 54
