Abner killed by Joab

This is another fine example of David's character. He has such respect for those in authority, that he punishes the men who killed Ishbosheth (who was the only person standing in the way of his becoming king of all Israel). The nation that had been united under Saul was briefly divided between those loyal to David and those loyal to Saul's lineage. Nothing terribly meaty here... just setting the stage for David's ascension to the throne of the entire nation of Israel.

Tomorrow's reading: 2 Samuel 5:1-12; 6:1-11; 1 Chronicles 11:1-9; 12:23-40; 14:8-17; 13:1-15

  1. Reminds me of a soap opera or something---all this intrigue, revenge and murder. Yet through it all, David, the man after God's heart, stands out as respectful of authority and determined to take no shortcuts to get to God's place for his life.
